An Indiana man charged in the death of his 18-month-old granddaughter after she fell 150 feet from a cruise ship in Puerto Rico will not serve time in jail.
Salvatore "Sam" Anello, 51, who pleaded guilty to criminally negligent homicide in October in the 2019 death of Chloe Wiegand, was sentenced to three years of probation Monday by a judge in San Juan.

Anello’s lawyer said his client will serve his probation back home in Indiana.
Anello was with his family aboard the Royal Caribbean Cruise ship Freedom of the Seas in July 2019 when his granddaughter fell to her death.
He said he had not been drinking and was not dangling the toddler out of the window, as some reports claimed shortly after the incident.
The ship was docked in San Juan at the time.

He told authorities he lifted Chloe up to the window of a children’s play area on the ship and was unaware the window was open when she plummeted overboard.
The girl’s parents have a pending lawsuit against Royal Caribbean.
