Emanuel says there will be a review of city's law department

CHICAGO – Days after saying a federal review wasn't necessary, Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel has called for an outside review of the city's law department after an attorney resigned amid allegations he concealed evidence in a fatal 2011 police shooting.

Emanuel said Tuesday when asked about Jordan Marsh's resignation that it wasn't necessary for the U.S. Department of Justice to add the law department to its Chicago police investigation. Emanuel said he was confident in the law department's head who is handling oversight.

But on Thursday, Emanuel announced that practices and standards of the law department's civil rights division will be reviewed by a third party and new training added.

Chicago's handling of police shootings is under scrutiny since the release of video showing a black teenager's 2014 killing by an officer.
