Army Reserve officer killed in Orlando remembered as 'very positive young man'

One of the 49 men and women shot dead in the massacre at Orlando's Pulse Nightclub Sunday was a U.S. Army Reserve officer known by one of his instructors as a "very positive young man" who "kept a smile on his face."

Capt. Antonio Davon Brown, originally from Cocoa, Fla., deployed to Kuwait from April 2010 to March 2011 as a personnel officer. He entered the Army as a ROTC cadet at Florida A&M University in 2004.

Brown had received awards including the Army Achievement Medal and National Defense Service Medal.

"I do want to keep his family in our prayers and remember him for being a great person who was willing to work hard," Lt. Col. Kelvin Scott, who taught ROTC at the university from 2005 to 2008, told the Tallahassee Democrat.

"We are especially saddened by the news that one of the victims was part of the FAMU family," the university responded. "In the meantime, the Florida A&M University community stands with the entire Orlando community in the wake of tragedy."

More than 50 people were wounded in the attack. The gunman died in a shootout with police.
