At least three people are believed to be trapped inside the wreckage of a burning furniture store that exploded in southeast Michigan.

Wayne City Manager John Zech tells WWJ radio that fire crews are attempting to extricate them from the William C. Franks home furniture store in the city of Wayne, some 15 miles west-southwest of Detroit.

He says at least one person has been pulled from the collapsed building.

Zech says the building's roof has "caved in completely onto the store."

WXYZ-TV in Detroit says the explosion occurred about 9 a.m. Wednesday. It is not immediately known if anyone has been injured.

Witnesses tell WWJ that the explosion shook surrounding buildings and that at least one person was pulled from the rubble.
