WASHINGTON – U.S. Park Police have detained a second man for questioning after someone fired a gun inside a car on the National Mall.
Witnesses reported a fight in the car and a shot fired Tuesday afternoon in southwest Washington, between the World War II Memorial and the Tidal Basin.
Sgt. Lelani Woods said Wednesday morning that a man later found in the car hours later was apprehended on a traffic charge. She says the investigation will tell whether he was in the car at the time of the reported shooting.
Woods says a second man was detained later Tuesday for questioning. She says he was injured, but it isn't clear if he had been shot.
Police say a gun was recovered on a highway about a mile away from where the shooting was reported.
