This is a rush transcript from "The Five," May 31, 2017. This copy may not be in its final form and may be updated.
JESSE, WATTERS, CO-HOST: Hey, everybody, I am Jesse Watters along with Kimberly Guilfoyle, Juan Williams, Dana Perino and Greg Gutfeld. It is 9 o'clock in New York City and this is "The Five."
Breaking news, Kathy Griffin won't be attending the same New Year's Eve party this year. CNN today fired Ms. Griffin as co-anchor of its New Year's Eve coverage for posing with a mask designed to look like the severed head of President Trump. A viewer warning, some may find this photo disturbing. And there it is. Disgusting.
President Trump reacted on Twitter writing, quote, "Kathy Griffin should be ashamed of herself. My children especially my 11-year-old son Baron are having a hard time with this. Sick!" First Lady Melania Trump also expressed outrage, releasing a statement that said in part, quote, "A photo opportunity like this is simply wrong and makes you wonder about the mental health of the person who did it."
Though, Democratic Senator Al Franken said he will still appear with her at an event in July.
(BEGIN VIDEO CLIP)
SEN. AL FRANKEN (D), MINNESOTA: Kathy is a friend. And she's a terrific comedian. But this had no business being in our public discourse.
UNIDENTIFIED FEMALE: Can she recover from this?
FRANKEN: Well, I think she did the right thing. I think asking for forgiveness and acknowledging that this was a horrible mistake. And so, I think she can.
UNIDENTIFIED FEMALE: And you will still going to appear with her?
FRANKEN: Yes.
(END VIDEO CLIP)
WATTERS: Wow! So, still appearing with Kathy Griffin.
KIMBERLY GUILFOYLE, CO-HOST: Guess who is not? Anderson Cooper.
WATTERS: Anderson Cooper.
GUILFOYLE: Anderson Cooper canceled his big New York plans with her. And I think he should have. We talked about this last night on the show. The fact that CNN acted decisively about this I think is good. It's important. And also, it's a little bit of a pushback on people that think that they can just take shots, disrespectful at the office of the presidency. It's fine to be able to disagree and expressed your opinion. But to do something like that is so offensive and outrageous.
And this isn't somebody who was, oh, by accident. No. She planned this out. She knew that it was going to be problematic. And Dana mentioned last night, you hear her on the tape ahead of time talking about, oh, we will going to have to move to Mexico after this. She knew exactly what she was doing. Good. She deserves to be punished for it.
WATTERS: This done absolutely backfired. Because like Dana said yesterday, it was already in motion, the apology.
DANA PERINO, CO-HOST: Yes.
WATTERS: Do you think that Kathy owes the Trump family an apology because as we saw, it had a huge impact on the sun.
PERINO: Well, only if she means it. I mean, if it's another apology that in my mind was insincere then no, I wouldn't do it. I think that I would never recover if Melania Trump, the First Lady of the United States or any First Lady of the United States said they were disappointed in me. Like that.
GUILFOYLE: Exactly.
PERINO: I personally would never recover. I would be in a fetal position under this table. Feeling like a kicked dog.
WATTERS: That's right.
GUILFOYLE: But it's true.
PERINO: Yes. He deserved it.
WATTERS: I mean, do you buy Kathy Griffin's apology? No one at the table buys it. CNN probably doesn't buy it. Anderson Cooper doesn't buy it. This is what she does. It was a stunt and it blew up in her face.
GREG GUTFELD, CO-HOST: Yes. As Dana pointed out, she lost her endorsement deal with Squatty Potty. Which was funny because her career was already in the toilet.
GUILFOYLE: And now what will you do?
GUTFELD: I don't know.
(LAUGHTER)
But there's a couple of things. I do think that this was a way for her. I think she did this on purpose to catapult herself from D to B list, to head to the top of the anti-Trump mountain.
PERINO: Yes.
GUTFELD: Because in this era, if you lack talent the way she lacks talent, now Franken was lying, she's not a terrific comedian, the best way to go forth is to take that express train to political relevance. In this case, the worst things that you can say about Trump will make the best friends in Hollywood. Now Madonna will call her back. And now she will be able to say, yes, I am crucified because of Trump.
I have a bigger problem with the media saying this is a nonstory because they find that Trump as an acceptable villain. If you obviously have done this with anybody else, it would have been differently. And then the media also calls the conservatives and the Republicans and right-wing hypocrites because we are the ones that always call people out on being too politically correct.
PERINO: Right.
GUTFELD: We call people out on being snowflakes, a stupid word. However, unlike the left, we didn't actually call for her job. No one is rioting. We are not trying to ban her from speaking at colleges. That is something that the left does when he find somebody that they deem to be evil. Here we just think she's wrong, she's stupid, she's about as funny as syphilis. But we're not saying, she needs -- I don't care if she keeps her job. I don't really care.
PERINO: Right.
GUTFELD: I think that she knew, she wanted to get out of this Kathy Griffin world, the sad world that she's in.
GUILFOYLE: Uh-hm.
GUTFELD: And go to a different Kathy Griffin world which is the one of anti-Trump political relevance. And she did it.
GUILFOYLE: B-list.
JUAN WILLIAMS, CO-HOST: I don't think she's getting any book deals. But you'll never know. But I just disagree on so many levels. First of all --
GUTFELD: You are like a parking ramp. So many levels.
WILLIAMS: Right. But I got to say, when I hear her say, oh, it's the office of the presidency, I'm thinking, well, what happened when conservatives and Republicans were going so harshly against President Obama? What happened with Ted Nugent?
GUTFELD: Exception proves the rule.
WILLIAMS: Well, that's not the exception because -- Carl Paladino, I could keep going names. No, no, but I can keep going.
GUTFELD: All right. That's the third one.
GUILFOYLE: Can anybody hold up a severed head of any other president?
WILLIAMS: Look, I think it's horrific. I think it should not be.
PERINO: They banned the rodeo cloud for life.
WILLIAMS: A rodeo clown.
PERINO: Rodeo clowns use the mask of every president that we showed it, right? There are Bush masks, there are Clinton masks, there are Obama masks. And that rodeo clown lost its job --
GUTFELD: He doesn't have transferable skills. When you are fired as a rodeo clowns, where do you go?
PERINO: Right.
(CROSSTALK)
WILLIAMS: In the case of Ted Nugent, you go right to the Oval Office because President Trump will invite you in and celebrate. You think, well, wait how could --
WATTERS: Juan, President Obama invited Black Lives Matter to the White House and they chanted about killing police officers.
WILLIAMS: Are you kidding? That is so wrong. That's not an equivalent. And Ted Nugent --
WATTERS: How is that not an equivalent --
WILLIAMS: Excuse me. Black Lives Matter has never called for killing cops. You are really --
WATTERS: You've never seen a video on this very show where they say, fry them out, pigs in a blanket.
WILLIAMS: You know what, that's absurd. That's how conversation and real debate in this country gets diminished because people say ridiculous, outrageous, do you think, what is going on? Am I in the same world?
GUILFOYLE: You're not. Yes. I mean, Juan, the problem is that you don't understand. No one at this table would say that it was acceptable if somebody did it to a liberal or Democratic president. We're saying that the conduct is unbecoming. I am telling you it's outrageous conduct and I don't care how somebody votes or who they are, who they believe in. It's not acceptable to do.
WILLIAMS: I agree but I think Republicans, especially some now on the Trump side, are reveling in this. It's like, oh, you know what? We are so resentful of the Hollywood elites and the Kathy Griffin's. And this is our opportunity to tell them off. What they didn't have is --
GUTFELD: I agree but, you know what, maybe we deserve it. Like, maybe you are right. Maybe people are reveling in it because we've been through it ourselves for so long.
WATTERS: Ted Nugent is one example. You've had Madonna saying she wants to bomb the White House.
GUILFOYLE: Yes.
WATTERS: You've had Kathy Griffin now saying this. Sarah Silverman says, she wants an armed overthrow of the White House. There has been a lot of violent threats directed at this President in the last 100 days. You can name may be one person said something. I think this is what Ted Nugent said. If Barack Obama becomes the President in November, again, I will either be dead or in jail by this time next year.
WILLIAMS: Oh, no, no, you want me to tell you some more?
WATTERS: Not exactly acceptable but at the same time --
WILLIAMS: Jesse?
WATTERS: It's not like holding a severed head that was bleeding.
WILLIAMS: Jesse, I think you've just under-informed on this issue. Ted Nugent said the man basically was a subhuman mongrel.
PERINO: Yes.
WATTERS: That's disgusting but that's not threatening his life and that's what we're talking about.
WILLIAMS: Jesse, look. I'm just going to tell you, you know what he said? He said here is my machine gun, put your mouth on it. That's pretty horrible, Jesse.
(CROSSTALK)
GUILFOYLE: Nobody is saying that, right, but here's what I'm trying to say. We get that that is not appropriate and is offensive. So is this.
WILLIAMS: Correct. I agree!
GUILFOYLE: So, what's your point?
WILLIAMS: My point is, oh, boy, when this happened on the other issue, I didn't hear such outrage on the right saying, you know what, Mr. Nugent, that's unacceptable. We don't like President Obama. We differ on his policy.
GUILFOYLE: No, no, no, we did. We did on this program and talked about Carl Paladino and we did say, it wasn't appropriate. So, sorry, sorry, sorry.
PERINO: I just wonder what, I wonder what Kathy Griffin really thought was going to happen. Like did she -- she said, I'm going to go to Mexico --
GUTFELD: Yes. Calm down, apologize.
PERINO: Like the short-term pain of this will lead me to --
GUTFELD: Yes. Better things. I mean, like CNN fired her for this. Apparently they haven't watched the previous New Year's Eve. Because in my view, it's her performances on New Year's Eve that are actually worse than this one picture.
PERINO: I remember that one thing she did.
GUILFOYLE: Punishable.
GUTFELD: Yes.
WILLIAMS: Her stand is that she is no K.G.
GUILFOYLE: Thank you.
WATTERS: That is true. No one is. You know what else --
GUTFELD: Reverse K.G.
(LAUGHTER)
WATTERS: Well done. Kathy Griffin also --
GUILFOYLE: Her mommy is not going to reverse myself inside out.
WATTERS: Sarah Palin put those targets on the map of districts she wanted to flip.
WILLIAMS: Yes.
WATTERS: Kathy Griffin blamed Sarah Palin for the Arizona shooting of Gabby Giffords.
PERINO: Yes.
WATTERS: Now, years later, look what happens. She is holding the severed head of the President. And would she ever be responsible if anybody takes a swing at President Trump? By her very logic, she would have to hold whoever made a threat or tried to do something against President Trump responsible.
GUTFELD: And remember, and Democrats use that with the Montana blaming the guy shaking up the reporter on Trump.
WILLIAMS: You know what, to me, Congressman Gifford has said, this is reprehensible. Chelsea Clinton said today "vile, wrong, not funny."
PERINO: Yes.
WILLIAMS: So, I don't get it. Well, I don't see Democrats somehow supporting Kathy Griffin.
WATTERS: No, I think Democrats finally woke up to the fact that what is been going on in their party is totally unacceptable.
GUILFOYLE: Right. And the supposed screen shot on this is, Kathy Griffin on one side with our President and on the other side is Jihadi John from ISIS. So, there you go.
WATTERS: It's so bad even Democrats can say so.
GUTFELD: But the thing is, how much you want to guarantee that because she insulted the acceptable villains in Hollywood and in the media, how long will she be down?
PERINO: She will be presenting at the Oscars by February.
GUTFELD: Exactly. If it was reversed, your career would be over, in this case she's fine.
WATTERS: All right. Coming up, some shocking statements from a bitter Hillary Clinton, that's up next.
(COMMERCIAL BREAK)
PERINO: Hillary Clinton today spoke at a tech conference in California where she had quite a bit to say about her loss to President Trump in November, including her email scandal and Russian meddling in the 2016 election.
(BEGIN VIDEO CLIP)
HILLARY CLINTON, FORMER SECRETARY OF STATE: The use of my email account was turned into, you know, the biggest scandal since Lord knows when. This was the biggest nothing-burger ever. They covered it like it was Pearl Harbor. The Russians ran an extensive information war campaign against my campaign, to influence voters. Comey was more than happy to talk about my emails but he would not talk about the investigation with the Russians. So, people went to vote on November 8th, having no idea that there was an active counterintelligence investigation going on of the Trump campaign.
(END VIDEO CLIP)
PERINO: President Trump weighed in on Twitter. Writing, quote, "Crooked Hillary Clinton now blames everybody but herself, refuses to say she was a terrible candidate, hits Facebook and even Dems and DNC."
In some ways, Kimberly, I feel bad for her because she's got grandchildren, she's had a long career. She could move on and enjoy life but instead, she seems very bitter. And instead of just saying, we lost on me, moving on, she's really raking over some old ground and coming up with fake news herself about this Twitter butts.
GUILFOYLE: That's correct. This is where when you are with a best friend -- you take a walk in the woods together, nothing creepy. And yes, and you talk to her and you say, listen. You are better than this. Rise above it. And I am just trying to get her to do the right thing. If you're somebody that's on her team, on her side, and say, it's really not a good idea. Be presidential even though you didn't win. And show them that you are the bigger person. Inspire the people that believed in you and supported you, that you are a class act, that you're someone that you will have relevance based on the issues that you want to propel forward and your ideology and not based on your grievance.
PERINO: Do you think anyone in the Democratic Party is telling her that, Juan? For example, Joe Biden tomorrow will announce that he is starting his own PAC which to me means, okay, is he like setting up for something in 2020, just in case. The Democrats are trying to move on but she is kind of not letting them.
WILLIAMS: I don't think that's a problem at all. I think her base in fact celebrates Hillary Clinton. Thinks like this is what they want to hear. I mean, to me, that's like telling President Trump to stop tweeting. It ain't happening. I mean, people, there's an audience for it and there's an audience for what Hillary Clinton says. And Dana, I just don't know why you even said that thing about the butts. I think --
PERINO: It's very specific. She was talking about the story that has been debunked in the last three days. The suggestion that all of a sudden President Trump got 300,000 twitter followers. It was very specific.
WILLIAMS: Okay. That's different. I think she is talking about what was going on during the campaign.
PERINO: She said both.
WILLIAMS: Okay. And during the campaign, I don't think there's any question --
PERINO: Oh, no, we were all the target of it.
WILLIAMS: Okay. I think when John Podesta got hacked, it was just hours after the Hollywood Access tapes were released and you guys think, hey, there's some collaboration, collusion whatever, going on here between the Russians and the Trump.
PERINO: Her daughter Chelsea Clinton today, Jesse, said she doesn't know how she will explain President Trump to her grandchildren.
(LAUGHTER)
WATTERS: They're going to be living in America that's going to be great again.
PERINO: Oh!
WATTERS: Just want to tell them that. You know, listen, Hillary says this scandal with the email was a nothing-burger. Then why did everybody destroy evidence and plead the Fifth? She's also blaming "The New York Times" for losing. That's like when you lose a baseball game, you blame the fans for not cheering loud enough. She's also saying, she's blaming misogyny for -- and she also said just a week ago that if the election was held in October 27th, she would have won.
That means America was not sexist on the 27th and then became sexist on Election Day. She's also saying that she's been claiming that Russia was trying to influence the election. She was telling everybody -- but no one would listen to her. She's supposed to be one of the most powerful people in America and no one is listening to you Hillary? Not a very good look.
PERINO: She doesn't mention Greg that she campaigned more in Arizona than she did in Wisconsin which state Arizona that she was probably not going to win in Wisconsin. One that she needed to win.
GUTFELD: Someone should tell her that people go see the Harlem globetrotters play, not the Washington generals. This is a traveling roadshow of lingering defeat. The fact that she said nothing-burger, which is the Washington D.C. word, meaning it's not cool, stop using it, it's foolish. Especially in that "Star Trek" chair where it looks like she's flying a space ship into another obscure planet where she should live. By the way, you know what? She was speaking at a tech conference. Is it that hilarious?
GUILFOYLE: Yes.
WATTERS: Yes.
GUTFELD: She was speaking at a tech conference. It was tech that caused her the election. That's like Bill Clinton speaking at a, I didn't sleep with an intern conference. She blames misogyny? She's an expert at the way she treated all the women that Bill Clinton hit on.
WATTERS: Good point.
GUTFELD: So, anyway, I just got to read the -- can I read the text?
PERINO: Of course.
GUTFELD: This is from Ted Nugent. So, this came over the transom as they used to say, this is at --
PERINO: You text with Ted Nugent.
GUTFELD: He says I never threatened the President. The Secret Service even concluded that.
WILLIAMS: Yes. After the Secret Service investigated.
GUTFELD: Well, they investigated, you wouldn't know why. Now they claim I shot an Obama effigy. Absolutely false. It never happened. So, I told them in the in the interest of being fair and balanced, I would read this text over to the 30 or 40 million people currently watching our show right now.
PERINO: Before we go, can I just ask Juan for you to comment on the Joe Biden PAC and what you think about?
WILLIAMS: I saw Joe Biden yesterday on the --
GUILFOYLE: You're name dropping.
WILLIAMS: No, no, I'm not name dropping.
GUILFOYLE: I love a name dropper.
WATTERS: I think that sounds a lot more fun.
WILLIAMS: Oh, no, I don't think so.
GUILFOYLE: Do you rode in together?
WILLIAMS: Yes. I don't think so. I think Joe Biden is popular. And I think Joe Biden has said, he does not think that Hillary Clinton was a great candidate.
GUILFOYLE: Right.
WILLIAMS: And think that he has an ability to do something that so critical for the Democrats right now which is to reach out to working class, white Americans. And remind them that the Democrats are their party. Not this populist ideologue.
PERINO: So my point Kimberly --
GUILFOYLE: Yes.
PERINO: -- if that is true, then wouldn't the Democrats prefer for Hillary Clinton to focus on bigger picture issues? Pick a couple of things that she cares about, rather than treading this ground over and over again?
GUILFOYLE: Yes, but she's -- it's all about her. Okay? So, she wants to go ahead and be still the base of the party, she won't let it go so if she has to take him down again for failure. She will do it. I mean, that somebody who is completely just self-interests, did not think about what's in the best interest of her party. If she thought about what was in the best interest of the party, she would have let Joe Biden run last time. Let's be honest but she was disgruntled because they felt she handed it over to Barack Obama because she felt cheated out, out of the last time. So, it's like oh, it's me again and then now she's still upsets.
WATTERS: Hillary is behaving exactly how she said Trump was going to behave if he lost. She's had some conspiracy theories. She's saying the system is rigged. She's blaming the media.
GUILFOYLE: She is blaming Watters' World.
(CROSSTALK)
WATTERS: She's starting a network and she's kind of self-promoting, oh my gosh, she's behaving like Trump.
GUTFELD: You know what she should do? She should start her own little shadow government. If she still think she's relevant, she could just create a little White House somewhere. She could have press conferences and invite people over. She could think in her own little mind that she's running the country.
GUILFOYLE: Well, her future is tech, and how to delete and destroy evidence.
GUTFELD: Yes.
PERINO: All right. Beat that horse. Directly ahead --
(LAUGHTER)
GUTFELD: By the way, that's a metaphor.
PERINO: It's a metaphor. Do not investigate me.
GUTFELD: No, that would be the liberal media.
PERINO: All right. Directly ahead, the media is again obsessing over one of President Trump's tweets, this one featuring the word, covfefe or something like that. We'll tell you all about it, next.
GUILFOYLE: Whatever it is.
(COMMERCIAL BREAK)
GUILFOYLE: Oh, yes. All right. Just after midnight, President Trump put out the following tweet. Quote, "Despite the constant negative press covfefe," something like that.
(LAUGHTER)
President Trump deleted the tweet with an obvious typo before 6 a.m. The media like most of the country and Greg spent a lot of time discussing the proper pronunciation of the new word coined by the President. We did too.
(BEGIN VIDEO CLIP)
UNIDENTIFIED MALE: I think it's covfefe.
UNIDENTIFIED FEMALE: Okay, covfefe. You're right.
UNIDENTIFIED MALE: The o is silent, covfefe --
UNIDENTIFIED FEMALE: You right, George.
UNIDENTIFIED MALE: Covfefe, all right. That tweet, that word covfefe, covfefe, whatever he wants to talk.
UNIDENTIFIED FEMALE: If you want me to say how to pronounce this word, I don't know. None of us here. Covfefe, covfefe, none of us really know how to say this.
UNIDENTIFIED MALE: Covfef, covfefe, we will going to let you make the call this morning.
UNIDENTIFIED FEMALE: Despite the constant negative press covfefe --
UNIDENTIFIED MALE: Yes, good morning. Meaning, I am not sure what the meaning is. I'm still trying to figure out how to pronounce it. Gayle, you have one. I'm going to go because of summertime with Corncob.
(END VIDEO CLIP)
GUILFOYLE: Okay. Asked about the tweet, White House Press Secretary Sean Spicer said, quote, "The President and a small group of people know exactly what he meant." Jesse, care to decipher?
WATTERS: Uhm. It was a typo, obviously. I think everybody knows that. The media looked like they covered Trump's typo more than they cover his beheading which says a lot about them. The typo has bothered me. I am a little bit of a grammar punctuation, Nazi, my parents are both teachers, so I don't know what the excuse is. He doesn't drink so I don't know why he misspells things or does things like that.
GUILFOYLE: He just tried to misspell it because haven't you ever tried to type on Twitter?
WATTERS: Yes. When you send something wrong. I think maybe --
GUILFOYLE: Autocorrect? Coverage?
WILLIAMS: Yes. That could be.
WATTERS: You know, I just think what it shows though is that he does have a lot of power on his fingertips. Because you can send out some typo and send the media on a wild goose chase. Next time the Russia subpoenas start popping up, I just send out some emojis and just have it blows everything off the front-page. You know, I think if he follows me on Twitter, I'm going to give him that advice.
PERINO: Okay. Good. I think he'll take it.
GUILFOYLE: A-yay-yay. All right, Jesse. That was a good one.
WATTERS: Thank you.
GUILFOYLE: Okay. Juan, did you find this funny?
WILLIAMS: Well, initially it was funny. Because obviously he meant to say they were getting negative press coverage in his fingers or his thumb or whatever. But also, it just indicated to me that at midnight, Kimberly, this is a lonely guy watching TV --
GUILFOYLE: Oh my God!
WILLIAMS: He wakes up early, he watches early TV. He's got nothing else to do.
GUILFOYLE: How do you know all this?
WILLIAMS: Why I think it's pretty obvious.
(CROSSTALK)
WILLIAMS: And I think, you know what just strikes me is that people then buy into this as distraction entertaining instead of paying attention to the fact that policy that is there aren't working -- not there. I just think this -- this is the way the media has gone these days. It's all about entertainment and personality and distraction.
GUILFOYLE: Juan, you got to lighten up a little bit.
GUTFELD: Hey, can I argue? Can I say that that's true and that's beautiful because at least all the problems that they're talking about have to do with words and not deeds? I mean, we're sitting here and we're talking about a tweet. Most of the things that become news that have to do with Trump have to do with the things that he says, it's not like he's going around killing people or making horrible deals with enemy countries
GUILFOYLE: He kills bad guys.
GUTFELD: He's only killing terrorist. He's not doing things that bring shame to the Oval Office. I mean sure, he says things that you're eccentric uncle might say, but they're just sayings so, I don't worry too much about it. And I think it's even the (INAUDIBLE) only people or the media who spent so much time on this story. I mean the barrier to entry in the story is so low because it's just a tweet. You can go crazy on it forever. So the mistake is that we find it so meaningful because it's so easy.
GUILFOYLE: OK, I want to go to the chief communicator, Dana Perino.
PERINO: So, I think that he handled it well. It was funny.
GUILFOYLE: Thank you.
PERINO: Who among us hasn't spelled something wrong on twitter?
GUTFELD: Never me.
PERINO: We all (INAUDIBLE). And also think the media was having fun with it.
GUILFOYLE: -- so small.
PERINO: So, like we criticize him for covering something and having fun for it?
GUILFOYLE: Right. It's hilarious.
PERINO: I think it was funny. What I don't like and I don't know if he was joking -- it didn't sound like it -- when the press secretary Sean Spicer says well, actually, the president and a small group of people know what he meant. No, the president already made it funny? Can't we all just laugh about it? Politics and humor should go hand in hand. He violated one of my rules. No twitter after midnight. Nothing ever comes that is good out of that.
GUILFOYLE: He also said no hats.
PERINO: Yes, no hats on TV. I also think it tops strategery. Like nobody remembers strategery.
GUILFOYLE: OK, Hillary Clinton just tweeted --
PERINO: About us.
GUILFOYLE: Yes, yes, Hillary and covfefe houses shouldn't go covfefe. So now everyone is getting.
PERINO: Now that's not funny. The president was funny this morning. Let him be funny and let the press laugh about it. I think it's good for everybody to have a go.
GUTFELD: -- she tweet that?
PERINO: Yes.
WATTERS: It sounds like a nothing burger to me.
GUILFOYLE: So she's -- that's your champ right there trying to get in on the covfefe fuss.
WILLIAMS: Oh, see I leave it like 10 (INAUDIBLE) here. It could be.
GUILFOYLE: Oh my god.
GUTFELD: Covfefe sounds like the two twins that bill Clinton are dating.
WILLIAMS: You know what, he should have done was correct it but I think he was so tired, so out of it and the thing is he is so powerful that he can tweet something at 1:00 in the morning and have the whole world paying attention the next day. It's crazy. We live in a crazy place.
GUILFOYLE: Hey, I think its good being president that's got stamina and awake at midnight.
(CROSSTALK)
GUTFELD: -- fresh strudel - covfefe.
GUILFOYLE: Up next -- covfefe, covfee --
WILLIAMS: Wasn't he (INAUDIBLE) president or something?
GUILFOYLE: Up next, President Trump might pull out of the Paris Climate Accord. Good idea? We'll debate it after this quick break.
(COMMERCIAL BREAK)
GUTFELD: President Trump may have us pull out from the Paris Climate Agreement. But the question isn't why we pull out, but why we pulled in to begin with. That was Obama's choice and he did it on his own, which sadly he could. When a pal spends cash on lotto tickets instead of toothpaste, it's a bad decision but you can't stop him. And that's what the Paris accord is: the world's worst lottery ticket.
Imagine a ticket where the prize is way smaller than the price of entry. A ticket that cost 10 grand that gets you five bucks in 100 years. That's the accord's most optimistic prediction: that it will cut temperatures by 0.05 Celsius over a century. Let that sink in. In scientific terms, it's trivial. In human terms, it's homicidal.
Trivial because there'd be no difference if we did nothing. But it turns homicidal once you think of the things we might have done instead with all those trillions of dollars. You could solve everything from malaria to malnutrition. The U.N. estimates that for $75 billion a year, we could give education, basic health care, sanitation, clean drinking water to every person on Earth. By diverting funds from that, the climate accord signers hurt millions of people they never have to meet so there's no guilt.
And that's what this is really about: It's about guilt. The climate accord is fueled by a lie that the West is so foul that only chucking trillions at a problem will absolve us of our exaggerated sins. But instead, the Paris deal makes life a whole lot worse.
Kill it then let's dance on its grave.
You know who signed the accord? I love this. Dana, North Korea. Even North Korea is doing it.
PERINO: Even North Korea -- well, they might have nuclear power soon.
GUTFELD: Yes, but they would prefer Earth be spending trillions of dollars on this and leave North Korea alone.
PERINO: That's right. So, the other interesting thing is if you remember when this was signed and we talked about it on the show, we were making fun of them for saying that President Obama deserved all this credit because it actually will achieve nothing.
GUTFELD: No.
PERINO: If you look at the Massachusetts, MIT assessment, it was something like global temperatures could reduce by 0.2 degrees Celsius in 2100.
GUTFELD: Yes.
PERINO: That's a long time.
GUTFELD: It's actually 0.02, and that's actually -- I gave a higher, a 0.05 because I was feeling diplomatic.
PERINO: Because you're being nice. Well I think that the president tomorrow, he says he's going to announce this at 3:00 in the Rose Garden, bold venue for something like this. I think that he can explain either way. If he says he's going to stay it doesn't matter because it doesn't really have any teeth in it and he can say that this is important for diplomacy. If he decides to leave, he can say it doesn't matter. Either way, I think that it doesn't matter.
GUTFELD: Jesse, what you think he's going to do?
WATTERS: He ran on America first not Paris first. I think he pulls out. It's worthless, like a piece of paper. I actually read what it said. Listen to this, it sets goals for reducing emissions and then every year, they meet at a fancy place.
GUTFELD: That's all it's about.
WATTERS: And they talk about whether or not they've met those goals.
PERINO: This is why President Obama didn't deserve all that adulation and praise at the time.
WATTERS: And it's nonbinding and there is no penalty for not reaching the goals and you can plot a bit and there's no penalty for that either. So the whole thing is worthless. And even considering that Trump's policies do take into effect, under Trump's current policy approach, by 2025 our carbon emissions will be going down 19 percent lower than they would have been in 2005. So they're already projecting lower emissions significantly if we just continue down the path we're going. And it's much better than China.
GUTFELD: Pull out, emissions, this is about five-star hotels, Kimberly. These people just creating a process for the rest o their loves. They get to go to the best places in the world, hang out and meet Leo DiCaprio. That's what this is about.
GUILFOYLE: Well, that's what it's about, and then Elon Musk (INAUDIBLE) force to withdraw from panels (ph). Fine, get back to making your fancy cars. The climate change treaty, they're basically a massive transfer of wealth from, you know, developed economies to less fortunate because you give them grants essentially to subsidizing that they can then say we are fighting climate change, right?
By the way, so the U.S. signs this, this is a bad deal for us. We're the ones that what, are going to be penalized? We're already doing a good job and making sure that we reduced carbon emissions. So we're actually wearing the white hats here. We're the good guys already, but yet we ant to continue to like do that deal, punish ourselves and lock ourselves in climate handcuffs? For what?
WILLIAMS: Well sometimes I think to myself -- GUTFELD: You just don't know what you are doing here, Juan.
(LAUGHTER)
WILLIAMS: This is unbelievable. I listen to this gunk and I think, wow --
GUTFELD: Give me a fact Juan. Give me facts.
WILLIAM: I'll give you a bunch of facts. You are talking about 0.5, they're saying 0.2 --
PERINO: That's from MIT, that's not from Dana.
WILLIAMS: That's what you said, but I think --
PERINO: But it's from MIT.
(CROSSTALK)
WILLIAMS: But here's what I'm saying to you guys, oh, so that means that it's not rising? It's not continuing to rise? No, you say it's reducing. Oh, OK. And you know you talk about things like oh, what about floating cities, what about scarcity, and hunger?
WATTERS: Floating cities.
WILLIAMS: Oh yes, what about -- no, no, don't talk about that.
GUTFELD: Where are you getting this information? Did you write --
(CROSSTALK)
WILLIAMS: You know how Ted Nugent tweets you? Al gore is in mine.
WATTERS: Al Gore says the ice caps were going to melt by 2014. Last time I check they're still --
WILLIAMS: Let me just tell you something -- oh I see, that's your conservative quote (ph).
GUILFOYLE: OK, you know how much this is going to cost the United States?
(CROSSTALK)
WILLIAMS: The U.S.A., Syria and Nicaragua, the only countries in the world that say, oh, nothing is going on. Temperatures aren't changing.
(CROSSTALK)
WILLIAMS: You know what this is, this is Steve Bannon and the nationalists saying, oh, this is make America great again, that's why he's tweeting that --
GUTFELD: Juan, I've been talking about this stuff for 10 years.
(CROSSTALK)
GUILFOYLE: Why are you blaming this on the nationals? You know why?
WILLIAMS: There's no jobs deal, no trade deal, no social --
GUILFOYLE: You know what Juan, you want to bleed this country dry of money and resources for no reason just to say that we support climate change.
WILLIAMS: Oh, you wouldn't do something that would help other people.
GUILFOYLE: You have to spend at least --
GUTFELD: No, the good things are the things that they're neglecting -- clean water, hygiene, malnutrition, malaria. All of that could be solved.
GUILFOYLE: Here's what we're going to do.
WILLIAMS: -- the Chinese go ahead. The Chinese are the big polluters (ph), what did that --
GUILFOYLE: Juan, you want some facts, wrap yourself around this, OK. We will spend at least $100 trillion in order to reduce the temperature by the end of the century by a grand total of, wait for it, three tenths of 1 degree.
WILLIAMS: This is what were discussing, Kimberly. And of course --
GUILFOYLE: Can you give me a better ways than that money?
(CROSSTALK)
WILLIAMS: Kimberly, that's like saying lots of things but to keep the temperatures from rising is essential for us.
GUTFELD: There are climate models have been done and in fact, if you have slight increase, that helps with vegetation which increases lifespan, Dana.
PERINO: I have one sentence, which is that President Trump can reverse President Obama's mistake by withdrawing from the support and then putting it to the Senate. It is something President Obama was not willing to do and it would stop the nonsense of the executive branch going around the Congress to try to commit America to decisions that it's not willing to make legislatively.
GUTFELD: Exactly. And on that note --
PERINO: Thank you.
GUTFELD: -- you know what, you could have saved that in your journal and I'm glad you didn't.
GUILFOYLE: DPJ (ph)
GUTFELD: All right.
(LAUGHTER)
GUTFELD: Won, these jokes are starting to --
GUILFOYLE: You will be out tomorrow.
GUTFELD: I'm decongested. I'm decongested. I have stomachs --
GUILFOYLE: You know who you're making sick now, the control room.
GUTFELD: I know. Aren't the Republicans the ones that are blocking Trump's agenda, analysis ahead.
(COMMERCIAL BREAK)
WILLIAMS: President Trump hasn't signed any major piece of legislation into law yet, one prominent conservative is blaming the Republicans for that.
(BEGIN VIDEO CLIP)
RUSH LIMBAGH, RADIO HOST: So, the Republican Party, which is ostensibly the party of the president, and they owe their majority to him, particularly the Senate are road blocking Donald Trump more than the Democrats are.
(END VIDEO CLIP)
WILLIAMS: Wow. So, this by the way, Kimberly, fits with something Corey Lewandowski, the president's former campaign manager said. He said if Republicans don't get behind Donald Trump, they will lose the 2018 midterms.
GUILFOYLE: Yes, well, I think he ought to know. He was obviously very actively involved in structuring the campaign and planning the election of the president and making sure he was as successful. I think a lot of people owe their seat to the president in turning out the vote in those districts, to be able to secure their margin of victory and, you know, prevail on the election. I don't think based on districting (ph) and what's going on it would be a good idea to try to just ignore that and not pay attention to their constituents.
WILLIAMS: Jesse, this morning the "Wall Street Journal" said oh, you know, there's a lot of dysfunction inside this White House. Maybe the president needs to admit that the root of the problem is in him.
WATTERS: I don't see that happening.
(LAUGHTER)
WATTERS: Listen, they had to ride the guy's coat tails. I mean, they're in there for a reason. The Republican Party was facing I think about 12 years being out of power in the White House, then Trump came along. You have two years basically. It's a small window. It can change. The next two years.
WILLIAMS: No, I meant they were after Bush.
PERINO: You mean, the (INAUDIBLE) window.
WATTERS: I'm talking about the window. Try to keep up. Two year, now, it changes very quickly and you got to get everything done because if you don't get it done, then you're going to have the Democrats have the house. And then you know what happens? Impeachment. Then they start trying to impeach your guy. Do you want to run in two years on that? That's not going to be fun.
GUILFOYLE: You know, they are not going to even really do that.
WATTERS: Build the wall, cut taxes, get people back to work.
WILLIAMS: But Dana, would you agree that it's Republicans who are blocking Donald Trump in accomplishing his legislative agenda?
PERINO: So this a mutually beneficial or destructive relationship. They made the president and his capabilities to hep solve these problems. So part of the problem is that the president made promises for example on health care, that the bill that he endorsed that passed House do not meet. So, that's a problem.
Also on the tax plan, what's to pay for? They don't know yet. So it's hard to go out and sell those things until those two fundamental questions are answered, but there is nobody who can sell this like the president and they really need him to lead.
WILLIAMS: And what do you say, Greg? Come on Donald Trump?
GUTFELD: I think the answer is somewhere in the middle. On one side you have these yes men, right. There could be because they give you support but they also indulge your worst instincts because they won't tell you everything. But then you have critics who could be a pain in the neck but they somehow bring out the best in you because they expect more. So we got to find a place in the middle there where it's like, where people don't -- I don't like when people say "you better get on the Trump train." Shut up. And then you have other people that say I'm a never Trumper. Both of you are almost the same, right. You both got -- PERINO: Yes, there's a lot of similarities.
GUTFELD: Yes, the similarities with never Trumpers and Trump trainers. You guys, you know, it's a nice little place in the middle though. Meet. Have some croissants.
WILLIAMS: I think there's a lot of these --
WATTERS: There will not be any croissants on the Trump train.
WILLIAMS: Ahead on "The Five," this just in tonight, video of Tiger Woods DUI arrest is coming up next, in "One More Thing."
(COMMERCIAL BREAK)
WATTERS: Time now for "One More Thing." Juan Williams.
WILLIAMS: All tight, so last week at the National Press Club D.C., the Multicultural Media Correspondence selected me as their 2017 broadcast journalist of the year!
GUILFOYLE: Yes.
(CLAPPING)
WILLIAMS: All right, here I am receiving the award but here I am talking about the good of "The Five" and Fox News.
(BEGIN VIDEO CLIP)
WILLIAMS: (INAUDIBLE) not only cable news but news and the way that we hear news, understand news and talk about politics in America. To be part of the performance that (INAUDIBLE) pressure by a committed news team, it's one of the highlights of my career.
(END VIDEO CLIP)
WILLIAMS: Well, thanks so much to the correspondence and I've got to tell you, it was a thrill. So thanks everybody.
PERINO: Congratulations Juan -- well-deserved. All right, Cassie Clay shulte has been in Facebook to search for her new project after hurricane Matthew hit South Carolina last year. It was a very devastating hurricane but sort of eclipsed by the election. She wanted to see how many women had become pregnant during their staycation because, well you know.
OK, so she found all of these women, Danielle Lewis, Lindsey Binkley, Taylor Pait, Lindsey Gullet, Brittany Day , Kayla Sumler, Savanna Dorsely and Molley Spears, all residents of South Carolina coastal towns, Bluffton, Beaufirt, Hilton Head, and they are all due to give birth very soon. And so she took them in front of all sorts of different places in South Carolina on this coastal town to take pictures of them.
WILLIAMS: Where are the guys?
PERINO: Well, they don't need their pictures taken. It's a beautiful picture.
GUILFOYLE: Very nice. I (INAUDIBLE) 22 hours. OK, perfect. Here's something you don't see every day on the streets of New York City and maybe stop it. GUTFELD: I'll be the judge of that.
GUILFOYLE: A carriage horse broke loose yesterday. Did you see this Greg? From its stable and it began running like the wind. Yes. It sure is the fire, from its stable and went through midtown Manhattan in the middle of rush hour. Look at her go. Her name is Goldie.
As you can imagine a lot of New Yorkers were stunned to see this mare sprinting through the streets.
PERINO: She's like let me free.
GUILFOYLE: Unlike Greg's videos, no one was hurt. This is real. And after eight minutes or so, she found her way back to the stable. She came from on her own. Isn't that so cute?
(CROSSTALK)
GUTFELD: You know what he says when he is trying get a cab? Hay.
WATTERS: Oh, very good.
GUILFOYLE: That's the --
WATTERS: OK, some new dash cam video has been released of Tiger Woods DUI arrest in Jupiter, Florida. Here it is.
(BEGIN VIDEO CLI)
UNIDENTIFIED MALE: Recite the entire English alphabet in a slow, non- rhythmic manner meaning you're not going to sing it, OK. Do you understand the instructions?
TIGER WOODS, PROFESSIONAL GOLFER: Yes.
UNIDENTIFIED MALE: OK, what were the instructions?
WOODS: Not to sing the national anthem backwards.
UNIDENTIFIED MALE: Not to sing the national anthem backwards.
WOODS: No.
(END VIDEO CLIP)
WATTERS: So the cop asked him to do the alphabet and he said the national anthem backwards. Poor guy.
(CROSSTALK)
GUTFELD: That's definitely Ambien. Because the Ambien always makes you confuse things and you end up eating a jar of peanut butter in your underwear.
PERINO: Don't tweet after that.
WATTERS: One more thing, Greg.
GUTFELD: Oh, all right.
(CROSSTALK)
GUTFELD: I haven't done a phrase (INAUDIBLE) on this one. Snowflake. It started out people were using it to describe sensitive safe spacers but now it's just a name that we just call everybody. You know a word is over when, you know, people are using it too much so let's stop using it.
(CROSSTALK)
GUILFOYLE: Evil losers.
GUTFELD: Evil losers
WATTERS: If Hillary uses it, then it's really dead.
GUTFELD: I was going to do -- it was either that or nothing burger but we already trashed nothing burger.
GUILFOYLE: Good thing we're out of time.
(CROSSTALK)
WILLIAMS: And it's getting hot in here for snowflakes.
GUILFOYLE: And good old glassy eyes over there is about done.
WATTERS: Don't miss an episode of "The Five." All right, set your DVR, never miss another episode of "The Five." "Hannity" is up next.
