Kids from across the United States submitted more than 130,000 doodles to Google's 2013 Doodle 4 Google competition. Google has whittled the entries to the top 50, and is now asking the public to vote on their favorites.

The theme of this year's contest was "The Best Day Ever." Kids were asked to draw a picture using the letters that spell Google and add a description. Entries were judged on artistic skill, creative use of the word Google and how well students conveyed their theme, both in their picture and in their words. Some children chose past experiences, while others imagined ones they might do in the future.
For instance, Hope S. (Google does not release last names), a finalist from Connecticut in the kindergarten through third grade group, said, "My best day ever would be if I could go skydiving. It would be such fun! Feeling a rush of excitement while you jump through the sky and having a great view down below. I would see cool planes and strange birds that fly so high and even kites!" (And it looks as though she may be wearing Google Glass in her drawing.)
Starting today through May 10, you can visit Google's contest site to vote for one entry in each of five grade groups: K-3, 4-5, 6-7, 8-9 and 10-12. The online vote will determine five national finalists, from which the national winner will be selected and announced at a Google awards ceremony in New York City on May 22.
