News aggregation website Fark.com has settled an 8-month-old patent lawsuit out of court -- for the whopping sum of zero dollars.
Drew Curtis, the founder of the popular site, called the entire ordeal "a nightmare."
"Imagine someone breaking into your home, then being forced to sit on the couch while their lawyers file motions over how much stuff they can take," Curtis wrote in a blog post announcing the settlement.
The lawsuit covered the broad category of inputting news releases into a web form and distributing them to media outlets. Fark argued that it doesn’t produce news releases or press releases, instead providing a forum for humorous links to stories on other websites.
Apparently, the claimant agreed, and agreed to drop his case.
"The patent troll realized we were going to fight them instead of settle, so they asked for our best offer. I said, how about you get nothing and drop the lawsuit? They accepted," Curtis wrote.
