Coast Guard Cutter Tackle Gets New Commander

ROCKLAND, Maine -- A new commander has been assigned to the Coast Guard cutter Tackle.

Chief Boatswain's Mate Eric Silvoy was assigned to the post Friday, succeeding Chief Boatswain's Mate Marc Moore in a change of command ceremony held in Rockland, according to a news release from the Coast Guard.

Launched in 1962, the 65-foot Tackle is the fourth of 15 original harbor tugs in the Coast Guard fleet.

The crew of eight spends the warmer weather maintaining 30 aids to navigation and four lighthouses, as well as conducting marine safety patrols. During Maine's winters, the crew breaks ice on frozen rivers and bays to mitigate coastal flooding risks and ensure safe passage for vessels and the timely delivery of their often critical cargoes, the Coast Guard stated in a news release.

Moore was lauded for three years of exemplary service and leadership aboard the Tackle as the officer in charge.

Silvoy served in multiple leadership positions at stations across the Coast Guard and aboard aboard Cutter Tiger Shark in Newport, Rhode Island, and Cutter Anvil in Charleston, South Carolina.
