As the results poured in on Election Day in America, so many people were evidently interested in learning about immigrating to Canada that the country’s immigration website crashed.
A spokesperson for the immigration department in Canada told FoxNews.com that the problem was caused by a “significant” spike in traffic.
“On November 8th, The Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship website (cic.gc.ca) became temporarily inaccessible to users as a result of a significant increase in the volume of traffic,” Lisa Filipps, a spokesperson for the department, said in an email. “Shared Services Canada worked through the night and continues to work to resolve the issue to ensure that the website is available for users as soon as possible.”
The website’s outage generated considerable attention on Twitter on Tuesday night as the election results became clear.

And celebrities like Lena Dunham, Bryan Cranston, and Stephen King have all said they would move, or think about moving, to Canada if Donald Trump won the election.
Filipps also pointed out that “the Government of Canada is committed to secure and reliable IT infrastructure to ensure high quality services to all users.” On Wednesday morning, the site was still not working consistently, so anyone interested in learning more about immigrating to America’s northern neighbor may need to be patient.
