Oklahoma City, OK (SportsNetwork.com) - For the first time in nearly two months, the Oklahoma City Thunder had both of their star players on the court when the current Western Conference leaders held their first practice following the All-Star break.
Point guard Russell Westbrook, sidelined since Christmas after undergoing a third surgery on his right knee in an eight-month span, took part in Wednesday's session, though the Thunder have yet to disclose whether or not he'll play in Thursday's blockbuster matchup with the Miami Heat.
"We'll see how he feels tomorrow," Thunder head coach Scott Brooks said afterward.
Westbrook tore the meniscus in the same knee while colliding with Houston guard Patrick Beverley during Game 2 of the Thunder's Western Conference quarterfinals series with the Rockets back in April. He was expected to be back in time for the start of training camp, but suffered a setback in October when a loose stitch caused the knee to swell up and require another surgery.
The three-time All-Star only missed the Thunder's first two regular-season games before returning to action on Nov. 3. However, he was experiencing swelling in the knee in December to necessitate the most recent surgery.
Oklahoma City has been able to withstand the absence of Westbrook, who is averaging 21.3 points, 7.0 assists and 6.0 rebounds in 25 games this season. With current NBA scoring leader Kevin Durant putting together an MVP-caliber campaign, the Thunder entered the break with the league's best record at 42-13.
The Thunder have gone 22-8 without Westbrook in the lineup and 21-4 when he's played.
