South Carolina's Dawn Staley has led the 21st-ranked Gamecocks to several milestones in her five seasons as coach. She hopes to add another one to that portfolio against No. 1 Stanford.

South Carolina (10-0) has matched its best start in program history. It tries to end the team's 0-8 mark against top-ranked teams when the Cardinal (9-0) come to Colonial Life Arena on Wednesday night.

The Gamecocks haven't faced a No. 1 team since December 2008 when top-ranked Connecticut pounded them 77-48 in Staley's first season.

Stanford's won the three previous matchups against South Carolina since Staley arrived, including a 76-60 win in the NCAA tournament's round of 16 last March.

Staley says the game is an opportunity to show how far the Gamecocks have progressed the past four years.
