Chicago, IL (SportsNetwork.com) - Patrick Sharp's overtime goal gave the Chicago Blackhawks a 5-4 win over the Dallas Stars on Sunday.
Corey Crawford made 30 saves for Chicago, which trailed by a goal on four separate occasions but answered each time. Brad Richards, who along with Sharp posted a goal and an assist, tied the game at 4-4 with his marker late in the third period, and Sharp won it 1:17 into the extra session.
Brandon Saad, Patrick Kane and Bryan Bickell also scored for the Blackhawks, who have beaten Dallas in all three meetings this season.
Erik Cole had two goals and an assist for Dallas, which saw its four-game win streak come to an end. The Stars had won their previous two games by a 13-1 total.
"Disappointing. We did a lot of great things and put up over 30 shots," said Cole. "Hopefully we can let it wear on us for a couple days, then carry over that frustration and that anger."
Kari Lehtonen surrendered all five Chicago goals on 38 shots.
Cole's tip-in 4:05 into the third gave the Stars a 4-3 advantage, which they held until Richards' wrister from a difficult angle near the goal line somehow found the back of the net with 3:57 remaining in regulation.
Sharp ended it when he snuck in towards the goal, received a feed from Duncan Keith and beat Lehtonen.
"Great play by Duncan," said Sharp. "Great patience, and a little fake shot/pass to me. And I was able to put it in."
Dallas' Jamie Benn opened the scoring at 3:59 of the first period. He stole the puck in Blackhawks' territory, gave it to Tyler Seguin and batted home the latter's rebound. Saad tied it 1:15 later, tapping in a feed from Jonathan Toews.
Jordie Benn's first goal of the season early in the second period put Dallas back in front. Again Chicago answered, this time in the form of a Kane wrister just over 1 1/2 minutes later.
Less than a minute after that, Cole made it 3-2 when he floated a wrister over Crawford's shoulder. Bickell sent the two teams into intermission tied at 3-3 with his power-play deflection at 18:05.
