Sinaloa, Mexico – Mexican Mario Rodriguez, the No. 7 contender, pulled off a big upset Saturday night to take away the IBF mini flyweight title from South African Nkosinathi Joyi.
Rodriguez (15-6-4, 11 KOs) scored a seventh-round knockout over Joyi (22-1), who was making his third title defense.
The stoppage gave Rodriguez a career-best five-match win streak.
