Flushing, NY – The Colorado Rockies placed outfielder Carlos Gonzalez on the 15-day disabled list and recalled pitcher Jeff Francis from Triple-A Colorado Springs on Wednesday.
Gonzalez is on the shelf after being diagnosed with a sprained joint of the right middle finger.
Prior to the setback, the 27-year-old was hitting .302 with 26 home runs, 23 doubles, six triples and 70 RBI over 103 games this season. His .591 slugging percentage and .958 OPS lead the National League.
Francis has gone 2-5 with a 6.63 earned run average in 12 games (11 starts) for the Rox in 2013, while pitching to a 2-2 record and 4.34 ERA in 11 games (six starts) with the Sky Sox.
