Texas Rangers third baseman Adrian Beltre was named the American League player of the week for the period ending Aug. 26.

Beltre batted .433 with five home runs -- three of which came in Wednesday's 12-3 rout of the Baltimore Orioles -- nine RBI and seven runs scored. He topped the majors in slugging percentage (1.100) and total bases (33) and tied for first in hits (13) and home runs.

Two days after his impressive power display, the 33-year-old became the sixth Ranger to hit for the cycle in Friday's 8-0 win over the Minnesota Twins.

Beltre's teammates Ian Kinsler and Mitch Moreland were also considered for the award.
