FC Porto retained its league title over the weekend with a 2-0 win at Maritimo combined with Benfica's 2-2 draw at Rio Ave.

Porto secured its win on Saturday after two successful penalty kicks from Hulk, meaning that a win would be required from Benfica on Sunday to keep the title race alive.

Benfica fell behind early to a goal from Christian Atsu, but recovered to take a 2-1 lead at the break with Nolito and Oscar Cardozo finding the net.

However, Rio Ave equalized in the 50th minute with a goal from Yazalde, and Benfica was unable to offer up a response, sealing Porto's 26th league title and its sixth in the past seven seasons.

Braga was a firm contender for the title just a month ago, but has earned only one point from its last four games to fall off the pace, including a 2-1 home defeat against Olhanense on Friday.

On Saturday, Gil Vicente got two goals from Joao Vilela in a 3-1 victory over Guimaraes, while Sunday's other matches saw Beira Mar top Pacos Ferreira, 2-0, in a match that had three red cards.

Pedro Ribeiro scored two times to help Feirense to a 4-0 victory at Uniao Leiria, Nacional handed Setubal a 3-0 defeat with two goals from Mario Rondon, while Sporting Lisbon claimed a 2-1 win over Academica on Monday as Ricky van Wolfswinkel scored the winning goal in the 77th minute.
