London, England (SportsNetwork.com) - After much speculation, Crystal Palace confirmed Saturday that Alan Pardew has been appointed the new manager of the Premier League club.

Pardew joins Palace from Newcastle where he had over five years remaining on his contract. He has signed a deal to remain at Palace through the summer of 2018.

The 58-year-old featured for Crystal Palace as a player from 1987-1991 and became a fan favorite after scoring the winner in the FA Cup semifinals against Liverpool in 1990.

Pardew has managed Reading, West Ham United, Charlton, Southampton and Newcastle with moderate success, guiding West Ham to the FA Cup final in 2006 and claiming Premier League Manager of the Season honors following a superb campaign with Newcastle in 2012.
