NORFOLK, Va. – Frank Hassell scored 15 points and grabbed 11 rebounds to lead Old Dominion over James Madison 64-58 on Wednesday night.
Kent Bazemore also had 15 points, Ben Finney chipped in 12 and Chris Cooper had 13 rebounds for the Monarchs (14-4, 5-2 Colonial Athletic Association), who won for the fifth straight time in the series.
Hassell, who also had three blocks, crossed the 1,000-point mark for his career (1,002).
Old Dominion, the conference leader in lowest points allowed (59.9 per game), held the Dukes (15-4, 5-2) to 39 percent shooting (23 of 59), and scored 21 points off 13 turnovers.
The Dukes got to the free-throw line just eight times, making five (62.5 percent). The Monarchs were 22 of 29 from the foul line (75.9 percent).
Denzel Bowles scored 20 points to lead James Madison, which saw the end of its nine-game winning streak, its longest since 1992-93.
