New York, NY (SportsNetwork.com) - New York City FC forward Tony Taylor will miss the rest of the season after rupturing his left ACL in the club's loss against the Portland Timbers on Sunday.
Taylor sustained the injury in the 33rd minute of the 1-0 defeat at Yankee Stadium, which was only his second appearance of the season and his first MLS start.
"It's always very disappointing when you see a player suffer a serious injury," New York City FC head coach Jason Kreis said in a team statement. "Tony is a great young professional, and I know his teammates are going to miss him on the field.
"Everyone at New York City FC is 100 percent behind him in his recovery and will be there to help every step of the way. I know that Tony will receive the best medical support, and I'm confident that he'll come back fitter and stronger than ever."
The 25-year-old Taylor was selected with the 10th pick in the 2014 Expansion Draft from the New England Revolution, and he will undergo surgery this week with the club yet to determine a timeframe for his return.
