Washington, DC – The Washington Nationals announced Thursday third baseman Ryan Zimmerman underwent arthroscopic surgery on his right shoulder.
Zimmerman played in 145 games in 2012, batting .282 with 25 home runs and 95 RBI, and helped the Nationals clinch the NL East title with the majors' best record.
In the NLDS against St. Louis, Zimmerman hit .381 (8-for-21) with two homers.
Zimmerman wasn't the only Nationals player to wind up on the operating table.
Infielder Chad Tracy is recovering after having an arthroscopic procedure performed on his left knee. He batted .269 in 73 games with Washington this past season.
Both players are expected to be ready for spring training.
