BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Cameron Moore hit a 3-pointer with 2 seconds left in triple overtime and Alabama-Birmingham beat UTEP 100-97 in Conference USA play on Saturday.
Moore finished with 29 points and 14 rebounds for the Blazers (11-3, 1-0), who have won five of their last six games. Aaron Johnson scored 26 points, dished out 14 assists, grabbed seven rebounds and committed six turnovers.
Claude Britten's jumper gave UTEP a 97-94 lead with 1:47 left to play. But the Miners (13-4, 1-1) did not score again, as UAB tied the game at 97-97 on Preston Purifoy's 3-pointer and won the game on Moore's basket.
Randy Culpepper, who led UTEP with 34 points, tried to send the game into a fourth OT. But his 3-point attempt missed as time expired. Julyan Stone finished with 14 points and had nine assists.
Jamarr Sanders scored 18 points for the Blazers, who snapped a three-game losing streak against UTEP.
