Paul Crosby scored 21 points and grabbed 13 rebounds to lead Mississippi Valley State over Southern University 65-62 on Monday night.

The Delta Devils (5-13, 4-1 Southwestern Athletic Conference) shot just 38.3 percent from the field (23 of 60), but outrebounded the Jaguars 43-31.

MVSU scored 22 second-chance points and 32 points in the paint.

With the score tied at 4, the Delta Devils scored 20 straight to take their biggest lead, 24-4, on Orlando Smith's layup with 10:49 left in the first half.

MVSU, which led 33-26 at halftime, held a 61-51 advantage with 2:20 to play. Southern (3-15, 2-4) scored seven straight to pull within 3 with 1:30 left, but the Delta Devils answered on Orlando Smith's layup with 57 seconds remaining. Ken Burwell made both of his free throws down the stretch to seal it.

Julius Ingram led the Jaguars with 18 points and Neal Webb added 15.
