New York, NY (SportsNetwork.com) - Chicago Fire forward Mike Magee has been voted the Volkswagen MLS Most Valuable Player for the 2013 season, it was announced Thursday.
Magee came to the Fire in a trade on May 25 from the Los Angeles Galaxy and made an immediate impact with the club, recording 15 goals and four assists in 22 games. The 29-year-old's six goals with the Galaxy brought his season total to 21 goals, one shy of Camilo Sanvezzo's Golden Boot output this term.
The eleven-year MLS veteran becomes the fifth Chicago Fire player to be nominated for MVP but is the first player in club history to claim the award.
Magee was honored as Chicago's 2013 MVP and Golden Boot winner, and had three game-winning goals and two game-winning assists for the Fire.
The award was voted on by media, MLS players and MLS club management based on regular season performance. The other two finalists were Galaxy forward Robbie Keane and Montreal Impact forward Marco Di Vaio.
