NEW YORK – Jets coach Rex Ryan says his team played a better game than the New England Patriots on Sunday, and that's why New York won — not because of a surprising penalty call.
The Jets won 30-27 in overtime on Nick Folk's 42-yard field goal, which followed a miss on a 56-yarder that was negated by a pushing penalty on the Patriots. The 15-yard penalty was called for the first time.
Ryan says Monday that "we outplayed New England." The Jets coach wouldn't say whether he had talked to his players or officials to look for the penalty. But Ryan acknowledged "we watch every single play," hinting that the Jets were aware of the Patriots' possible tendency to push teammates to try to block field goals.
