Indiana University says basketball player Devin Davis is expected to be released Friday from a Bloomington hospital and rehabilitate from a head injury closer to his Indianapolis home.

Davis was injured last Saturday when teammate Emmitt Holy hit him with a car. According to the police report, Davis jumped in front of the car and both players had been drinking.

In a statement from the athletic department, Devin Davis Sr. says his son is "weeks" ahead of where doctors thought he would be. Team doctor Larry Rink says the rehab is advancing rapidly.

Team officials say coach Tom Crean spent most of Friday morning at the hospital. After Thursday's exhibition win, Crean said the younger Davis took two walks on Wednesday. Davis has been undergoing physical and speech therapy.
