San Francisco, CA – The San Francisco Giants placed third baseman Pablo Sandoval on the 15-day disabled list Thursday with a fractured hamate bone in his left hand.
Sandoval injured the hand in Wednesday's 3-2 loss to the Miami Marlins.
The 25-year-old third baseman had surgery last May to repair a broken hamate bone in his right hand.
Sandoval set a Giants record by recording a hit in each of his first 20 games this season and is batting .316 with five homers and 15 runs batted in.
The Giants recalled infielder Conor Gillaspie from Triple-A Fresno to fill the vacated roster spot. Gillaspie is hitting .362 with three homers and 13 RBI over 23 games at Fresno this season.
