San Francisco, CA (SportsNetwork.com) - San Francisco Giants pitcher Matt Cain will return to the mound to start Friday against the New York Mets after being reinstated from the 15-day disabled list.
Cain has not pitched since May 21, when his start against the Colorado Rockies was cut short after he sustained a right hamstring injury in the third inning.
The three-time All-Star also spent time on the DL in late April after cutting his finger on a kitchen knife while making a sandwich for a pregame snack.
Cain is 1-3 with a 3.66 earned run average in eight starts this season for the NL West-leading Giants.
San Francisco also designated left-hander David Huff for assignment. In 16 relief appearances this season, Huff owns a 1-0 record with a 6.30 ERA.
