RUSTON, La. – Garrett Johnson scored 17 points as Fresno State defeated slumping Louisiana Tech 63-56 on Thursday night.
Fresno State (7-6, 3-0 Western Athletic Conference) won its third in a row, despite having won only one of five previous road games. And the 5-0 home record with which Louisiana Tech (9-8, 0-3) entered the game wasn't enough to prevent Tech's fourth consecutive loss overall.
Greg Smith had a double-double (14 points, 12 rebounds) to aid Fresno State, which built its largest lead at 18 points early in the second half.
Louisiana Tech's Olu Ashaolu answered with his own double-double (20 points, 11 rebounds), but his team never came closer than five points, once Fresno State established its biggest advantage. Ashaolu's dunk with 40 seconds left made it 61-56.
DeAndre Brown added 16 points for Louisiana Tech.
