Montreal, QC – Former Montreal Canadiens captain and defenseman Emile "Butch" Bouchard passed away at the age of 92 on Saturday.
A four-time Stanley Cup winner, he played all 15 of his seasons in the NHL with Montreal and totaled 49 goals and 193 points along with 863 penalty minutes in 785 games.
"Emile Bouchard was undeniably one of the best defensemen in Canadiens history and a tremendous captain," said Montreal president Geoff Molson. "Throughout his career, he was praised for his character and leadership, leading his team to four Stanley Cup championships. His jersey, retired on December 4, 2009, is a tribute to the impact he had not only on his teammates but on an entire generation of Canadiens fans. He will be missed, but never will he be forgotten."
The six-time All Star added 32 points in 113 playoff games before retiring following the 1955-56 season. He was inducted into the Hall of Fame in 1966.
