Flyers return home to face rival Devils

(SportsNetwork.com) - The playoff-hopeful Philadelphia Flyers aim to record at least a point for the 10th time in 12 games on Tuesday night as they play host to the rival New Jersey Devils.

The Flyers had a three-game winning streak snapped on Saturday night with a road setback to the Toronto Maple Leafs, but did manage to grab a point in the 4-3 overtime setback. Philadelphia rallied from a pair of deficits, forcing bonus hockey on Braydon Coburn's late third-period tally.

Fellow defenseman Kimmo Timonen scored twice and Steve Mason posted 32 saves, but could not stop Joffrey Lupul's shot from the side of the net in overtime.

Jakub Voracek had two assists for the Flyers, who are 8-2-1 in their last 11 games.

"We left a point on the board I think," said Coburn. "It's just too bad that we couldn't close it out."

The Flyers sit third in the Metropolitan Division, one point back of the New York Rangers.

While Philadelphia is hoping to grab one of the three automatic playoff bids handed out to the top three teams in each division, New Jersey is just two points out of the Eastern Conference's second wild card position.

The Devils have won four of their past six games and picked up a 5-4 victory over the Carolina Hurricanes on Saturday. Tuomo Ruutu's first goal with New Jersey helped his club pick up a victory against his former 'Canes squad.

Ruutu potted the winner with 6:30 remaining to help New Jersey rebound from blowing a 4-1 lead. Ruutu was acquired from Carolina prior to last Wednesday's trade deadline and also had an assist.

"It couldn't have come any bigger for (Ruutu) against his former team and the winner," Devils forward Ryane Clowe said of Ruutu scoring the game-winner against his old team. "Real good guy, happy for him."

Martin Brodeur made 29 saves and Adam Henrique continued his red-hot scoring pace with a second straight two-goal game. The forward leads the Devils with 23 goals on the season, having totaled nine over a six-game goal-scoring streak.

Travis Zajac contributed a goal and two helpers for the Devils, who open a three-game road trip.

New Jersey has won five of its past seven in Philadelphia, but has lost two of three to the Flyers on the season. Tonight is the fourth and final regular- season meeting between the division rivals.

The clubs traded road shutout victories earlier this season before the Flyers posted a 3-2 overtime win in New Jersey on Jan. 7. Brayden Schenn had the winner for Philly, while Henrique had one of the goals for the Devils.
