BOSTON – Toney Douglas played well the last time he filled in for an injured Chauncey Billups. There's much more at stake now.
In only his third season, the backup point guard is prepared to take over if, as expected, 13-year veteran Billups misses Tuesday night's second game of the New York Knicks playoff series with the Boston Celtics with a left leg injury.
Coach Mike D'Antoni said Monday that Billups is very questionable for the game. Douglas said that he was ready, but the hardest part is getting his body ready for extra playing time.
Billups limped off the court with 51 seconds left in Boston's 87-85 win on Sunday night.
In the six games Billups missed with a left thigh bruise from March 2-10, Douglas averaged 16.8 points and 6.8 assists.
