Chicago, IL – The Chicago Cubs placed pitcher Ryan Dempster on the 15-day disabled Saturday with a strained right quad.
The move is retroactive to April 18.
Dempster has yet to earn a win this season despite a 1.33 earned run average in three starts. The right-hander has recorded 23 strikeouts in 20 1/3 innings.
In a corresponding move, the Cubs recalled outfielder Tony Campana from Triple-A Iowa.
Campana batted .304 in 14 games with Iowa this year and paced the Pacific Coast League with eight stolen bases at the time of his promotion.
