Chicago, IL (SportsNetwork.com) - The Chicago Cubs claimed pitcher Donn Roach off waivers from the San Diego Padres on Wednesday.

Roach made his major league debut with San Diego in 2014 by appearing in 16 games, including one start, and owned a 1-0 record with a 4.75 ERA. He spent most of 2014 with Triple-A El Paso, where he posted a 4-6 record with a 5.24 ERA in 19 games.

The 24-year-old right-hander was designated for assignment by the Padres on Nov. 3.

Roach was selected by the Angels in the third round of the 2010 draft. San Diego acquired him on May 3, 2012, from the Angels along with infielder Alexi Amarista for right-handed pitcher Ernesto Frieri.
