LYNCHBURG, Va. – Desmond Holloway made 5 of 6 free throws in the final 30 seconds as Coastal Carolina held off Liberty 70-67 on Saturday night for the Chanticleers' 12th straight win and coach Cliff Ellis' 600th career NCAA Division I victory.
Ellis, in his fourth year at Coastal Carolina, is the 26th coach in NCAA history to reach that milestone and is now 600-380.
Coastal Carolina (14-2, 5-0 Big South Conference) held its largest lead, 64-54, with 1:23 left, but the Flames closed to 69-67 with three straight 3-pointers in the final 23 seconds, capped by John Caleb Sanders' shot with 9 seconds left.
Kierre Greenwood, who led the Chanticleers with 15 points, made the first of two free throws with 8 seconds left and Evan Gordon's 3-point attempt hit the rim with 1 second to go.
Gordon scored 17 points to lead the Flames (11-7, 5-1), who saw their four-game winning streak snapped.
