Barcelona, Spain – Dominika Cibulkova of Slovakia and Italy's Sara Errani were easy semifinal winners Saturday and will play for the title at the Barcelona Ladies Open.
The third-seeded Cibulkova rolled to a 6-1, 6-1 thumping of Romania's Sorana Cirstea in just 58 minutes after the seventh-seeded Errani claimed a 6-1, 6-2 victory over Spain's Carla Suarez Navarro in just 69 minutes to start the day.
Cibulkova will play for her second career title. She won her maiden WTA crown last October in Moscow, finally prevailing in a final after losing each of her first three title matches.
The win in Moscow came in her last event of 2011, but it was a rough start to the 2012 campaign for the 22-year-old Bratislava native. She failed to win consecutive matches in any of her first seven events, then reached the fourth round in Miami before finally finding success this week.
Errani, on the other hand, has had a very strong start to the campaign. She won in Acapulco last month for her third career title and has reached at least the quarterfinals in five of her eight 2012 starts, including her first career Grand Slam round of eight appearance at the Australian Open.
The 24-year-old Bologna native is 3-3 all-time win WTA finals.
Cibulkova owns a 4-2 mark against Errani, including victories in both meetings last year.
This week's winner will claim $37,000.
