MISSOULA, Mont. – Will Cherry scored 16 points to lead Montana to a 62-55 win over Portland State on Saturday night.
Cherry also had seven assists and was 9 of 11 from the free-throw line.
Kareem Jamar had 14 points and seven rebounds for Montana (8-4, 4-0 Big Sky). Mathias Ward added 11 points.
Montana, the defending Big Sky Champion, led 35-21 at halftime and never looked back.
The Vikings outrebounded Montana 34-30, but Montana had the advantage in shooting. Montana shot 41.7 percent from the field for the game, while the Vikings (3-8, 1-3) shot 37.7 percent.
Aaron Moore led Portland State with 14 points and 11 rebounds. Renado Parker had 12 points.
Portland State has lost eight consecutive games to Montana.
Montana is scheduled to visit North Dakota on Thursday, while Portland State has Sacramento State scheduled on Thursday.
