CHARLESTON, S.C. – Omar Wattad scored 30 points and Chattanooga held on to defeat The Citadel 69-68 Thursday night.
Chattanooga (9-8, 5-0 Southern Conference) got its last points on Wattad's jumper with 2:05 left. That made it 69-65, and the Bulldogs (5-12, 1-4) chipped away until they went for the win. Austin Dahn missed a 3-pointer with 4 seconds left and, after Chattanooga's DeAntre Jefferson missed his only free throw in nine attempts, The Citadel's Zach Urbanus missed another 3-point attempt at the buzzer.
Wattad was 8 of 14 on 3-pointers, helping the Mocs shoot nearly as well from beyond the arc (12 of 30) as they did inside it (12 of 26).
Chattanooga is now 9-0 when it holds its opponent under 70 points, but has lost every game in which it has not. The Bulldogs lost their fourth in a row.
Cameron Wells led The Citadel with 17 points, while Dahn and Urbanus had 15 apiece.
