Wimbledon, England – It took three sets, but the second- seeded American pairing of Mike Bryan and Lisa Raymond defeated Leander Paes and Elena Vesnina on Sunday to win the mixed doubles crown at Wimbledon.
Bryan and Raymond won 6-3, 5-7, 6-4 to capture this title as a pairing for the first time. It is their third Grand Slam title together after winning the 2002 U.S. Open and 2003 French Open.
For Raymond, it is her fifth mixed doubles Grand Slam and second Wimbledon, with the first coming in a partnership with Paes in 1999. All of Bryan's mixed doubles Grand Slams have come with Raymond, although he finished runner-up at Wimbledon twice with other partners.
Vesnina dropped to 0-3 in Grand Slam mixed doubles finals, and Paes 6-7, having won three Wimbledon titles before.
Bryan and Raymond made little mistakes, with only one unforced error and one double fault between them to go with 16 aces and seven winners. Paes and Vesnina, meanwhile, had four unforced errors and three doubles faults while recording four aces and seven winners.
