Bruins sign McQuaid to three-year contract extension

The Bruins on Thursday signed defenseman Adam McQuaid to a three-year contract extension. Terms of the deal were not revealed.

McQuaid, 24, appeared in 67 games in 2010-11, his first full season with Boston. He had 3 goals, 12 assists and a plus-30 ranting, which led all rookies and was tied for fifth among all players. In 23 playoff games, McQuaid had 4 assists. He was scoreless with a plus-3 rating in seven games against the Vancouver Canucks in the Stanley Cup Final.

In 86 career NHL regular season games, McQuaid has 4 goals and 12 assists.

The native of Charlottetown, PEI, was selected by Columbus in the second round in the 2005 Entry Draft, and was acquired by the Bruins on May 16, 2007 in exchange for a fifth round pick in the 2007 draft.

Boston also signed forward Craig Cunningham to an entry-level contract and defenseman Zach McKelvie to a one-year contract. Per team policy, terms of those deals were not disclosed.

Cunningham, a 5-foot-9, 191-pound forward was a 2010 fourth-round pick of the Bruins. He had 27 goals and 60 assists in 77 games in the Western Hockey League with the Portland Winterhawks and the Vancouver Giants last season.

McKelvie had signed with the Bruins in 2009, but obligations to the U.S. Army -- he played four years at the school -- prevented him from joining the team. A 6-2, 200-pound defenseman, McKelvie had 14 goals and 44 assists in 134 NCAA games.
