Lake Buena Vista, FL (SportsNetwork.com) - The Atlanta Braves have released pitcher James Russell.
Russell was acquired by Atlanta last July in a trade deadline deal with the Chicago Cubs and pitched to a 2.22 ERA in 22 games for the Braves. He struggled this spring training, however, allowing 10 runs -- nine earned -- on 10 hits in 7 2/3 innings.
The 29-year-old lefty has a career record of 10-16 with a 3.74 ERA in 338 appearances, all but six coming out of the bullpen.
