NORFOLK, Va. – C.J. Reed and Alexander Sterling scored 18 points each to lead Bethune-Cookman to an 85-83 overtime victory over Norfolk State on Saturday night.
The Wildcats (7-8, 2-0 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference) led 68-66 with less than a minute to play in regulation before Kyle O'Quinn hit a jumper in the paint with 16 seconds left to force overtime.
Bethune-Cookman scored the first eight points of the overtime period and held on for the win. Two free throws from Reed with 5 seconds to go in overtime pushed the Wildcats' lead to 85-80 and sealed the victory.
Garrius Holloman scored 16 points and pulled down eight rebounds for Bethune-Cookman, which made 13 of 14 free throws (92.9 percent) in overtime.
Aleek Pauline and Chris McEachin scored 18 apiece for the Spartans (1-12, 0-2), who have lost 11 consecutive games. O'Quinn finished with 17 points in the loss.
