Anaheim, CA (SportsNetwork.com) - The Los Angeles Angels acquired second baseman Johnny Giavotella from the Kansas City Royals in exchange for right- handed pitcher Brian Broderick Friday.
Giavotella, 27, is a career .238 hitter in 125 games over four seasons with 20 doubles, five triples and four home runs.
He spent most of 2014 with Triple-A Omaha (PCL) where he batted .308, hit seven home runs and stole 20 bases. In seven career minor league seasons, Giavotella owns a .305 batting average.
The 28-year-old Broderick never appeared in a game with the Angels organization. He made 60 relief appearances with Sugar Land in the independent Atlantic League in 2014.
Broderick last appeared in the majors in 2011. In 11 relief appearances with the Washington Nationals, he posted a 6.57 ERA in 12 1/3 innings with four strikeouts and three walks.
