U.S. Rep. Joaquin Castro Weds His Longtime Girlfriend Anna Flores

To those befuddled by the mirror images that twins political stars Julian and Joaquin Castro are of each other, Joaquin usually had this to say: Look at our left hand, I’m the one without the wedding band.

No more.

On Saturday, Joaquin Castro, a freshman Democrat Congressman from Texas, tied the knot with Anna Flores in a private ceremony that was attended by family members in San Antonio,Texas.

He and his twin brother, San Antonio Mayor Julian Castro, turned 39 on Sept. 16. They're both seen as rising national stars in the Democratic party.

Joaquin weighed in on the news of the end of his bachelor status: "Anna and I have had an eventful and very blessed year. We are excited to embark on our journey together as a family."

The San Antonio Express-News reported that at the twins' birthday celebration, the congressman disclosed he and Flores were expecting their first child, a girl, in December. Flores works for a tech firm and is based in San Antonio.

Castro said the couple plans a Catholic ceremony next summer to celebrate with friends.

In a Facebook post on Saturday night, the twins’ mother, long-time activist Rosie Castro, said: “Joaquin and Anna were married on this lovely night. Two families are joined and life begins anew. Many blessings to them both.”

On Sunday, Julian Castro posted: “Congratulations to Joaquin and Anna! Wishing them a lifetime of happiness and blessings.”

Earlier this year, Julian expressed excitement over his brother’s engagement to Flores, saying: “They've been together three years and have been great friends for five. May they have a blessed future together!”
