Former Deputy National Security Adviser K.T. McFarland celebrated President Trump announcing a full pardon of former National Aecurity Adviser Gen. Michael Flynn Wednesday, but expressed frustration with the lack of justice in his case.

"I am very happy for General Flynn and for his family and maybe they can now go about rebuilding their lives, and he can go about restoring his fortunes and reclaiming his reputation, McFarland told "The Story" guest host Dana Perino.

TRUMP ANNOUNCES 'FULL PARDON' OF MICHAEL FLYNN

"But I like to look at it in even a bigger picture," she added. "Because the effort to go after General Flynn, it wasn't about General Flynn. They came after me, too. It was never about me. It was always about getting Donald Trump. And they made the whole thing up."

Trump's announcement Wednesday concluded a long legal saga brought about by former Special Counsel Robert Mueller's investigation into Russian interference in the 2016 election. The prosecution of Flynn came under scrutiny earlier this year after the release of FBI documents that suggested a plot to get him to lie.

McFarland said that while she was happy for her former boss, the corrupt officials who allegedly framed him are "never going to have to answer for what they did to the country."

"Senior officials in the Obama administration and the West Wing and the Justice Department and the FBI and the intelligence community, they knew Mike Flynn didn't commit any crime in talking to the Russian ambassador," she said. "But they pursued it anyway. They made up the whole Russia hoax."

She went on, "I look at that and I say, 'You know, General Flynn has been pardoned, good for him. But how does the country get those three years back?' How does the Trump Administration, which was targeted from the beginning, and from within ... how does he get that time back?"

The FBI officials involved in Flynn's case "are never going to be held to account," McFarland emphasized. "They are never going to have to answer for what they did to the country and to the rest of the people. They have collected their 30 pieces of silver and a lot of them, in fact, are joining the Biden administration."

Trump's Justice Department moved to drop its case against Flynn following the release of the bombshell FBI documents, but encountered hurdles in court after the D.C. Circuit Court of Appeals rejected Flynn's plea to force U.S. District Judge Emmet Sullivan to drop his criminal case in August.

The reason, McFarland believes, is because Obama-era officials were hoping to "string it on past the election in hopes that in a Biden administration, they can go back after Flynn. "

Flynn's family released a statement late Wednesday, praising "President Donald J. Trump for answering our prayers and the prayers of a nation by removing the heavy burden of injustice off the shoulders of our brother Michael. We thank President Trump," they wrote, "for recognizing our brother's sacrifice in this battle for truth."
