Fox News Poll: 66 percent say Congress should continue to investigate Benghazi

FILE 2012: A protester reacts as the U.S. Consulate in Benghazi is seen in flames. Sixty-six percent of voters want Congress to keep investigating the White House’s handling of Benghazi, according to a Fox News poll.

The latest Fox News poll finds that most Americans think Congress should continue to investigate the Obama administration’s handling of the terrorist attack on the U.S. consulate in Benghazi.

The attack took place in Benghazi, Libya on September 11, 2012 and resulted in the deaths of a U.S. ambassador and three other Americans.

Sixty-six percent of voters want Congress to keep investigating the White House’s handling of Benghazi.  That includes 50 percent of Democrats, 68 percent of independents and 83 percent of Republicans.

About a third opposes lawmakers continuing to investigate the attack (31 percent).

The number of voters wanting Congress to keep investigating is down from a high of 73 percent in June 2013.

The House Select Committee on Intelligence investigation is ongoing.

More hearings may be coming, as Fox News Chief Intelligence Correspondent Catherine Herridge has learned there is a new push by lawmakers to recall the former CIA Deputy Director Michael Morell to testify publicly based on allegations that he either misled or provided questionable testimony when he appeared before both the Senate and House intelligence committees.

The Fox News poll is based on landline and cell phone interviews with 1,006 randomly chosen registered voters nationwide and was conducted under the joint direction of Anderson Robbins Research (D) and Shaw & Company Research (R) from February 9-11, 2014.  The full poll has a margin of sampling error of plus or minus three percentage points.
