DURBAN, South Africa — Prince Harry is warning against complacency in the fight against AIDS, saying inaction has set in as the epidemic has drifted from the headlines and people live longer with the disease.

The British prince spoke Thursday with rock star Elton John during a global AIDS conference in South Africa.

The prince, who publicly took an HIV test earlier this month, said the world cannot lose the sense of urgency in fighting the disease.

He said a new generation of leaders must step forward on the issue and make sure no young person feels any shame in being tested.

Elton John called the prince a powerful ally in the fight against AIDS, the leading cause of death among adolescents in Africa, where around 30 people are infected every hour.
