An English physician made more than just a teeny weiny error — performing a vasectomy on the wrong patient, a man who was complaining about long wait times at the doctor’s office.
Dr. Ninikram Vaswani, a urologist at the Broadgreen Hospital in Liverpool, is facing numerous charges and the possibility of having his medical license revoked after he admitted to tying the wrong person’s tubes, according to the Telegraph.
The slip-up came during a particularly hectic day in Feb. 2014 at Vaswani’s office, where patients who showed up for appointments at 7:30 a.m. –like the victim, there to have scar tissue removed–were being seen after those that showed up four hours later.
“A certain amount of anger was displayed by patients on that day,” the doctor said during his hearing with the Medical Practitioners Tribunal Service.
That’s when a decision was made to change the order of the list , a move not communicated to the operating team.
“It’s my understanding Patient A was brought into theater outside of sequence for these reasons,” Christopher Dawson, a consultant urological surgeon said, according to the site.
Unsurprisngly, the error left the man “physically and emotionally traumatized.”
