Officials at a Maine hospital say doctors have completed a kidney transplant for a woman whose donor was found through an ad posted on her car window.

Maine Medical Center spokesman Matt Paul says Christine Royles of South Portland received the kidney Tuesday from Joshua Dall-Leighton of Windham. Paul say the surgery was successful and doctors anticipate "strong recoveries by both the donor and recipient."

Paul says the hospital is grateful for Dall-Leighton's donation and that the case "enhanced awareness of the need for living donors."

The surgery was delayed because of crowdsourced donations aimed at defraying Dall-Leighton's expenses. Hospital officials said before the procedure was scheduled that they needed time to determine if the monetary donations violated the National Organ Transplant Act. The act forbids potential donors from profiting from a donation.
