Celine Dion and Twin Boys Home From the Hospital

Celine Dion has brought her twin boys home Wednesday night, after a successful delivery from St. Mary’s Medical Center in West Palm Beach, Fla.

Dion and husband Rene Angelil named their newborn sons Eddy and Nelson.

The 42-year-old superstar singer delivered the boys Saturday afternoon. One boy weighed 5 pounds, 10 ounces, while the other weighed 5 pounds, 4 ounces.

The names Eddy comes from Dion’s producer and dear friend, Eddy Marnay. The name Nelson is after Nelson Mandela, according to People.com.

Dr. Manny Alvarez, senior managing health editor for FoxNews.com and chairman of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology and Reproductive Science at Hackensack University Medical Center in New Jersey, said it sounds like Dion had a normal delivery.

“Just over 5 pounds is a very normal weight for twins at 36 weeks,” he said.

Alvarez, who did not treat Dion, said that delivering twins at 36 weeks is to be expected.

“The average delivery for twins is 38 weeks, so for Celine and her husband, that’s only two weeks shy of normal delivery. I would expect that if there are no other complications, they are going to be perfectly fine,” he said.

At 42, Dion was considered to be a high risk pregnancy.

“I would call this pregnancy a success story, especially with twins and at her age,” he said.

Dion and her husband-manager, Rene Angelil, are already the parents of one son, 9-year-old Rene Charles. But Dion had long wanted to have more children, and, like with her first child, she had difficulty becoming pregnant. She has spoken openly about her struggles, undergoing several rounds of in-vitro fertilization.

Last year, after information leaked that she was pregnant, she confirmed the news, only to learn that the in vitro procedure was not successful. She had to issue a reversal weeks later.

In an interview earlier this year, Dion said she hoped that by publicly sharing her struggle, she could help others.

"If I help people through my voice, through my interviews, through what I go through, I do not want to change that at all," she said. "I think it's making a difference."

The boys came a month early. Dion was due to deliver next month, but earlier this week, it was announced that she was hospitalized as a precaution to make sure she was near her doctors as she prepared to give birth.

Dion, a five-time Grammy winner who has sold tens of millions of albums, announced earlier this year that she would be returning to Las Vegas for a three-year run at Caesar's Palace. She had a hugely successful five-year run in Las Vegas that ended in 2007.
